It is recommended to use the oblique planes to create cutting planes for the CFD simulation. The oblique planes allow creating cutting surfaces which are perpendicular to the vessel axis.
The oblique plane needs to be interactively placed perpendicular to the vessel axis.
The 3D interface for the definition of the cutting planes is illustrated below:
In the example above one oblique plane was used to create the cutting planes on the selected surface render object: the walls. The results are two entries in the View tree, in the walls branch: the Cutting_caps_1 and Cutting_caps_2.
For each cutting plane 1 and 2 a cap was created and named as inlet and outlet respectively:
When velocity and magnitude data are loaded when starting the CFD Case the Generate data profile button is active and allows generating the velocity profile for the selected cutting plane.
Activate the Generate data profile button to visualize profiles for the selected cap(e.g. inlet):
The Preview tab allows selecting one of the images available on the list. The profile for the Velocity Amplitude only can be exported in PMOD or Fluent compatible format activating the Export velocity profile button. With the push pin button in "append" mode the currently selected frame will be available for selection in the boundary condition settings step for the velocity (U) under the selection "data profile(image based)".
The Mag tab allows visualizing the flow magnitude:
The Velocity tab allows visualizing the magnitude (MAG), the Velocity AMPLITUDE, and separately the velocity in X and Y directions
To exit the Data Profile for cap:[..] interface activate the Close button.
Close the 3D interface with the OK button to generate the surface mesh. The calculation process may take a couple of minutes.
Activate the View surface mesh button to visualize the SM in a 3D window as illustrated below:
The 3D interface allows exploring interactively the generated surface mesh. Close the window and continue with the VM creation. The cutting planes will be used to define the boundary conditions for the CFD simulation.
Please refer to the PMOD 3D Rendering Tool Users Guide for any further details about the oblique planes and cutting-related information.
